Visit Ely and an array of businesses within the city came together to kick start the Christmas shopping season with a grand Christmas hamper competition.

It saw businesses gift something to the hamper, including gift certificates, homeware, sweet treats, original artwork and even cuddly toys.

Potential winners were then set a goal to spend over £10 in five of the businesses participating, get a stamp on their entry and then return a completed entry to any of the businesses ready to be collected on December 4.

Tourism and town centre manager at Visit Ely, Anna Bennett, said: “We’ve got an incredible array of shops in Ely and the number of completed entries was astonishing.

“The whole competition has been so well supported by independent businesses in the city, who not only made the competition what is it but make this city a true destination for residents and visitors!”

Judith, who won the hamper, said: “I was shocked to get the call; I never win anything!”
