At least 120 girls who took part in a litter pick across Ely to help improve the lives of young people have raised more than £1,300.

The group, armed with gloves, bags and litter pickers, cleaned up areas such as the Paradise Centre, Ely Country Park and St Mary’s Street to raise funds for the Girlguiding’s Appeal and Children in Need.

Group leaders joined the girls on their trek around the city, which backed the annual joint fundraising campaign that helps support young women and other children in the UK.

“We are incredibly proud of what our young members have achieved,” said Alexa Minett, an Ely City District Commissioner and leader of 4th Ely Guides.

“They have cared for their local environment, worked as a team, and raised a lot of money for two great causes, Girlguiding and BBC Children in Need, at the same time.
