A Grade-I listed church which has been transformed in a modern and sustainable space for the community will reopen on Sunday (November 27).
St Mary’s Church, in Ely, has been closed for almost a year while specialist builders and engineers worked on the building, which is said to be 800 years old.
It will reopen its doors between 11am and 4pm for the community to look at the completed project for the first time.
Rev Chris Hill, the Rector, said: “The building has become the beautiful, accessible, sustainable, flexible and functional space we’d hoped for.
“Please do come along and take a look. Imagine how your group or organisation might like to use it. Whoever you are, wherever you are from, you are welcome here.”
The opening day will be part of Ely Festive Fair. There will also be refreshments and an exhibition.
Already booked is a “Sing Together” Dementia Choir community event on December 3 at 11am and Ely Choral Society will stage their Christmas concert on December 10 at 7:30pm.
