Dozens of girls will aim to raise funds for charity by cleaning up the streets of Ely.
Around 70 girls from the city’s Girlguiding Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers groups will take part in a sponsored ‘clean-up-athon'.
The clean-up looks to raise over £200 for both the Girlguiding appeal and Children in Need as part of a joint fundraising campaign.
“Our young members really care about their city and the local environment,” said Alexa Minett, leader of 4th Ely Guides and joint Ely City District commissioner.
“It’s brilliant to have so many Girlguiding members of all ages from Ely City District come together [and] with so many taking part, we should be able to make a real difference.”
The ‘clean-up-athon' on November 19 will begin at Ely Cathedral before the group moves to different areas of the city centre.
Now in its third year, the joint campaign plans to raise funds that can help empower young people’s lives.
Ely Litter Pickers will be offering their equipment to the group as it tries to make an impact on their local environment.
“A sponsored litter pick is great way to take positive action and raise money for a great cause like BBC Children in Need and Girlguiding at the same time,” said Alexa.
“Guiding is all about helping others and doing your best. Our members take a lot of pride in their community and want to help others.”
All money raised will be split equally between BBC Children in Need and Girlguiding.
For Girlguiding, the money raised will support at a local and national level to benefit girls and young women across the UK.
The money raised will enable the charity to continue supporting their wellbeing by providing a space where they can be themselves, make friendships, build confidence, and gain important life skills.
For BBC Children in Need, the funds from this year’s ‘clean-up-athon' will help support local charities and projects in communities across the UK that are helping children and young people facing a range of disadvantages.
This includes living in poverty or experiencing distress, neglect or trauma.
