Littleport Community Primary School has gone all out for the Rugby World Cup.

As part of the school’s aim to ‘bring the world to Littleport’, each class adopted a country taking part in the Rugby World Cup and then learnt all about that country during the week.

They learnt about the flag, traditional clothes, dance, language and cooked some of their food. The children were given a passport and given time to ‘travel around the World’, visit each classroom (country) and find out all about life there.

Also, children of all ages took part in a tag rugby tournament. They had taken part in rugby lessons in PE building up to the tournament and all really enjoyed getting to grips with what for many of them was a new sport.

Headteacher John Cattermole said: “It’s been a huge success. Children have loved learning to say a few words in a new language or a dance or cooking traditional food from Samoa or Japan for example.

“We have a strong commitment to children learning about the World - all of our children learn French and Spanish - and we want everyone to learn about other cultures, break down barriers and become true global citizens.”

Hannah Crack, PE leader, said: “I’ve been delighted by how boys and girls of all ages have taken to the sport and have enjoyed running with the ball, passing and getting very excited about the game.

“Some of them have been watching on TV, and more of them are now because of our week. Some children are cheering on Namibia or Canada as well as England!”
